Independent Twitter-commissioned research into how Indian women use the microblogging site revealed nine major conversation themes, including points of passion and interests, news, times of celebration, communities and social change. .
The results are the result of a quantitative survey of women on Twitter and an analysis of 5,22,992 Tweets sent by female Twitter accounts between January 2019 and February 2021 in 10 Indian cities.
Twitter research shows that one of the top reasons (24.9%) for women who use its service is to pursue their interests and passions. In this category are those looking for content on fashion (30%), books (28%), beauty (25%), movies and television (21%), music (18%), food (18%), technology (17%), art (17%) and sport (14%).
20.8% of women use Twitter to stay up-to-date on local and international news, while 14.5% of female users engage in celebratory moments, both personal and business. 11.7% of women use the platform to connect to virtual communities and the network. These women come together with hashtags such as #WomenInScience, #WomenInTech, #WomenInMarketing, and #GirlGamers. 8.7% of women tweet to drive social change through online campaigns.

Their communities and conversations highlight the uniqueness and diversity of the service. Access to a free and open Internet allowed everyone to express themselves freely without barriers.
